everyone is so busy
sighh...ehhh..those with hols pls post more lehh..Orientation got chio bu photos also can post....haha...
anw..in my attempt to revive the dying blog...i shall post one of my exps in my surgery posting...hope i am not infringing on any patient confidentiality...
Situation 1:
91 year old Chinese lady. She is the ultimate, peaceful, loving granny anyone can have BUT she cries every single time she talks to Medical students. She REFUSED to be warded at first and in the first few days she was warded she could walk around and joke with you when you talk to her. But now you can see she is gradually degenerating and sinking into depression. She complains about how her children do not want her anymore, how much effort she spent giving birth and raising her kids. ALL 7 of them do not want to come and see her.
Each time you manage to comfort her and she stops sobbing, she is as lovely as a old lady can get. A real gem.
On checking her MSW notes, it is revealed that the social workers spent like 4-5 days trying to arrange a family conference, but no one in the family seems to want to come.
So, what do you do when this 91 year old lady breaks out into tears in front of you, begging you to give her some medicine so that she can pass away peacefully? What do you tell her?
Situation 1 continued:
You decide to visit this lovely grandma as often as you can. Each time you come the grandma tells you the same story. She doesn't really seem to remember you though that is debatable. But each time you come visit her, the patient in the adjacent bed tells you actually the grandma's daughter brings her grandchildren to come visit her. Feeling puzzled, you ask this grandma if she remembers her daughter/grandchilren coming to visit her and she says there is no such thing. The patient in the opposite bed says the same story as the other patient, adding that this lovely grandma actually ill-treats the nurses when the doctors are not around.
You think about the possible explanations.
1. The grandma is demented. She cannot remember her daughter visiting her. 2. The other patients are lying. 3. The daughter visits her mother but refuses to bring her home. That is as good as not coming to visit her, right? 4. The grandma is lying? 5. Others
How can you investigate this matter? Will you do any good to investigate at all?
