on a more light-hearted note....
Yes I must say the army has become quite soft with inconsistent standards and appalling levels of motivation across the board boiling down to fundamental issues involving more often than not the willingness to fulfill the NS obligation. I've seen people abusing the attn B and C tags and excuse tags... I've seen people totally decide to slack their time away in accordance with their philosophy: "either the top or the bottom, never get stuck in the middle" And they are in considerable number unforuntately and nothing can be done about it without it being labelled as draconian. (hmmm....) Its no wonder people (who I don't know) go around saying with supreme confidence that singapore's army is no more than a paper tiger.
But before I get charged by someone over my comments on a blog, I must say that these people have no attain critical mass and are indeed far from it. I must say we've understood much from these months... many a time they were very cliche but real lessons which were relearnt at a higher level of appreciation. Many of my sgts say NS is a lot about self-discovery and challenge.... that we should not keep distracting ourselves about what's going to happen after NS. (Almost all of them are regulars though so do take note). Take the percentage applicable to you I guess.
And I must erase this abhorrent image that only those that cmi sign on for the army. I see a great deal of capable sgts who have signed on.... unfortunately they are stuck in a certain system that doesnt give much credit or recognition to the work they do... often being the scapegoats or punching bags for those in the higher echelons. Some of them are the most patient and tolerant people I've seen.... but of course, not all :)
we are the unwilling doing the unnecessary for the unappreciative. I dunno. I'm sure many people would beg to differ though...
Finally we reach the part that justifies the title of the post :) I was given this puzzle to stop me from sleeping in a, I swear, immensely boring lecture on leadership. What is the next number?

down with sore eyes again...
been forced to go home from field camp...by my pc...even though i literally begged him and wing com to let me stay....do shit work also dun mind....
should not have called for a medic la me...stupid
heheh..the story goes...
we were doing navigation @ night...damm shagged out already cos the previous few days our sec com not arnd and our pc took us for a hell ride...plus less than 5 hours of sleep everyday...
we were supposed to hide from vehicles...so we decided to prone around sispec grounds (saw ronnie..:)) to wait for another section from our platoon....as we waited...literally all of us fell asleep...there and then...just sweet on the spot..
when i woke up abt 5-10 mins later...felt some liquid flowing out from my nose...thought it was mucus...but felt was too fluidy to be mucus...so i wiped it...it was blood...blood was everywhere...my face, neck, rifle, hands, sleeves, boots...
but i was feeling fine la...just that it wont stop bleeding...asked my friend to signal for a medic....
my friends were scared out of their wits...had to tell them repeatedly that i am fine...
when the medic came...i asked them if i can not go to the medical centre...he looked at me with a very stone look and tell me i "better go la"
in the end the MO gave me 3 days rest at home for sore eyes, nose bleed and a swollen ankle...
but...sighh...protocol...protocol...protocol...tsr sucks...
my apc/sec com sent me home....on his car...on the way we talked la...
he says the army isnt what he was now....the scholars "made things happen".....made the saf a soft army....he is really quite sad cos he is a really farmer, loyal and country-loving type....can see it in his eyes...now he thinks maybe for some...the rank is really just $2.50
beg the new safos...pls wake up your idea...the army is not just a place to wayang and get a scholarship...
hehe...i didnt even know that the nba playoffs started...didnt even know that wizards are in and the lakers are not...didnt know that denver is in but cleveland is not...
somehow...this has to stop...all the sore eyes, ankle injury, this and that this and that....i just beg the one above to give me some peace...so that i work hard..and push on...and not leave my buddies alone to do all the shit....

haha shall turn this space into e place where i rant.. sighhh am really overloaded w marking - e single most hated thing i HAVE to do.. sigh.. so my students: don't take this as a chance to skive away.. hmm it's pretty ironic here in hci.. teachers chase for homework, then are stressed with the amount of work they need to mark.. haha i'm not doing much chasing - explains why i'm not as stressed maybe =p
but if i compare myself to living in e jungles w buddha pictures around.. hmm suddenly work seems so much fun-ner =)
staff room air-con is off liao.. at 7pm e uncle will come around n chase remaining teachers off.. if not for e uncle think teachers here will all become super workaholics.. including yours truly..

For the next few weeks..for those who have tv n radio by their side n those who can walk balonglong along orchard n specifically those who can go up mount faber cable car terminal on 280405(tmr), u can c for urself wad is "tou wen zi - d"..jus in case u din noe up till now or u wan to noe more..haha..
anw..the muchly anticipated(me n pear n candice only) movie "tou wen zi - d" will be officially open on 23rd June..so 25th june(sat) or 26th june(sun) will most prob b the day that is the most congested in the cinemas cos we will be there.
so now since we noe when the movie is opening (23rd june)..n the most prob date we will b going (25th june or 26th june)..if u wish to join our ren2 ji3 ren2 campaign in the cinema..pls do push away all ur other commitments cos u wont haf any strength to do anything else besides going home/booking in to slp..or mebbe like wad they say more pple more strength go play mahjong or do sth else tog..haha..
actually everything is still qt early lah..so things might change..the post is jus to entertain pple..haha..but details are accurate and serious when published..:)

alpha bravo charlie delta echo foxtrot golf..
ohwell i suppose im oso one of the few who r more free than the rest in commanding sch and various units..cos i can bookout on wed n fri..they r really cham i guess..wkends always kena burnt..then got lotsa guard duties..alot things to learn n physical exhausting activities..bleagh..im qt fortunate now at air force school(AFS) cos i dun even get to do sai kang..but mug whole day from 8-5..reading thru some coursewares and the engaging in active learning..n ofcus must learn n get used to toking alot in front of everyone..which i think i kinda lost it liao ever since i got into army..but basically good life lah compared to the rest altho we all oso not v happy..haha..everyone not happy in NS..
ohwell..i meet alot of lao jiao regulars who used to work in real-time ops units for like max 10+ yrs?..haha...some r my instructors now lah..they got lotsa interesting stories to share..i always get more fascinated abt my future posting when i listen to them like how some cok air op spec din let the grd vehicle to get out of the runway b4 some aircraft land..then hafta buy the whole unit lunch..then some cok prof who gets paid 4 or 5 figures jus looking at the sky..for weather forcasts lah..then the sembawang air base control tower is gan chio..saw chinook, super puma..learn abt some morse code applicable to speechless transfer..learn abt color codes..learn abt all radars..learn basic info of aircrafts..learn abt air flight routes..alot of codes..hen some air defence stuffs like SAM..sign on seems to b a good option after all..but ofcus as pes C personnel we r not advised to sign on cos there's no future for us..
oh my fwen fainted when he ran 2.4km tt day..a regular..hope he can get well..dun get downgraded..no future really..
tdy jus yi da tuo masters in AFS..heard there's a course for masters..bleaegh..greet until sian..

i tio sore eyes...very sad...the 8th victim (i think) of a delta outbreak of sore eyes..but i think i contracted mine from the guard staff rest room...dirty bedsheets and all...i was actually looking for my pink ic while registering for my doc...wat the hell was i thinking?
was stuck in tt stupid guard room...then now this...quite sad...:( oh well..."suck thumb"..as they always say in the army...

been long since i last posted.. haha i've noticed that all of u guys make generalizations like "back to studying in a few mths for us girls" and in yang's post after he listed all the guys' postings he said "so tts e latest info of where u can find any of the guys".. hmmm i haven go thailand before leh =p still surviving here in sg (thankfully not in some camp in the jungles of malaysia or sth) =PpP
totally agree w xiz - studying beats working hands down lor.. i've been working like crazy over these few months.. can't believe they treat me as if i'm a regular teacher.. giving me more teaching duties than any other gep teacher (but heng i dun have cca duties else i can imagine me rotting in some place watching cute boys wearing khaki shorts running around =p) and i've to come out w worksheets and assignments and notes and mark the practicals and worksheets and assignments and... so as u guys can see working is not easy lor.. but of course being a teacher is fun in a sense tt i get to know A LOT of juniors =) like those who spammed the tagboard - joseph is sec 2, shaun is sec 1 - dunno y they always want to know who's the love of my life =S come on la i'm yet 18?! then they were like - "haiya mr liew go get one lar" as if chiobus rain from the sky like that.. so my eyes rolled at 60 rpm to show my disagreement to the biased statement(s) =) yar i get satisfaction in seeing lighted up faces too.. especially the younger ones as when they can get really really really excited after knowing stuff.. had been overwhelmed by questions to such an extent that i had to give post-it stickers to the sec 1s so that they can write their questions on a piece of paper so that i can collect it fromt them and give them a reply next lesson.. i was qt impressed with some questions - who wants to explain quantum mechanics / chaos theory / multi-dimensional parallel universes, anyone? often i had to write "don't know" on the pieces of paper - they think i'm a walking chem / phy / bio / wadever dictionary, which I AM NOT lor.. wahpiang..
oh yeah i'm sorry guys i never expected my students would post bouliao stuff on the tagboard - by the way some of them read the ENTIRE thing, archives included, after i told them the existence of the 03s78 blog.. then they were impressed with our pic (like a lot of others are) and one kept bugging me abt the gal sitting beside me.. *eyes going now at 80rpm* is our blog THAT interesting?
yah yah i'm dying to have another class outing.. i no life lor these few weeks.. always sch -> boarding sch room -> sch (cycle repeats) sian sian sian i need a life.. i'm getting bloated lor.. last night i had a shock cos my bmi = 23.8 (3sf) aka overweight (darn the researcher who lowered the bmi to 23 for overweights), so i was like "#^@(@&#*(@&#".. does any of the camps allow civilians from foreign nations work out and burn fat? wondering whether i should book in or not.. =(

long time no post, i guess, fr the used-to-be-most-frequent poster. hoho, that makes me sound like a piece of paper, as in poster & banner. erps. anyway yeah jus read e new blogposts of the week, courtesy of shea & yangs. felt qt inspired to blog so here i come :)
guess i cudve posted alot since ive been out here & working (not too hard-ly summore heh) but hmm. i guess we all post when we feel some gan3 chu4s (or to spread info, but nvm..) so this shows tt.. yeah working doesnt really give pple many thots. maybe some learning points, which is mostly related to ren2 ji4 guan1 xi4s, mostly when to be less innocent & obliging, and more hmm, worldly wise. is there such a word? hmm. not to say im not the same xizzy u noe, its jus tt, to certain pple i'd be more ke4 qi4, polite, not my crazy/silly/open self. -nods-
anyhow. working in hwachong has been great. lets see. firstly, theres the students. it really is alot of satisfaction when (a) u explain sth and ur students haf that 'AHH i see' look on their faces. :) and (b) when u can help pple with their troubles & problems or jus provide a listening ear to some who are down.. and finally, (c) when they express concern for you (like when i was sick las week, smses fr my students cheered me up muchly! thanks if ure reading this!) and gratitude to you. whee! :D
of cos theres the colleagues part. haha im sure everyone agrees e bio unit is qt nice. all e fierce-but-motherly/nice pple, lame-and-approachable pple.. hehhs. :D all the lunches/ snacks/ gossip sessions are things to look forward to everyday :) cannot disclose too much here haha, i think some of my students read this. oh yes if u all do pls tag :)

Yes... 2 very convenient words to scold people with... especially when they don't have a dictionary with them... then again... if you want to achieve such a purpose do go to insultmonger.com to get some in obscure languages. Which then again might not be so purposeful because you might not get some of the kick of seeing the other person visibly peeved because they dont realise you're hurling insults at them. This, linking back to the real point, is why superiors in the army cannot stop hurling vulgarities at soldiers... because the soldiers don't show that they are peeved beyond the point of control... so they dun get enough kick out of it and persist.
But, shoving the army talk to one side, we come to the 2nd subject of interest... april fool's day! Right, its over.... ok... but I came across this interesting piece of information: The origin of april fool's day.
Ancient cultures, including those as varied as the Romans and the Hindus, celebrated New Year's Day on April 1. This closely follows the vernal equinox (March 20th or March 21st.) In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII ordered a new calendar (the Gregorian Calendar.... Thursday, June 26, 2003: Saw this flying fish, and was like studying it for five minutes. I tugged at its pectoral fins and spread them out, marvelling at the Artificer's wondrous piece of art. Wasn't I supposed to be studying my notes rather than studying a fish?
As for the javelins I broke, one's stainless steel and the other is aluminium. If I broke a carbon fibre or kevlar javelin, 200 push ups won't be the end of it by far :(

Anyway, alot of things really did happen. But the many of them can't be willed to change. Swearing and complaining may seem to help resolve your emotions but alleviates no matters. Although it might seem passive to just take a laugh at things and forget them, but sometimes that is a good way.

hmm..another year has gone..todae is april fools' day again..haha..still remember the prank we played on ms hia last yr?..haha..dunno wad tricks will u guys b doing on other pple or kena-ed from other pple this year..hurhur..but ohwell..looking at the old pics brings bac lotsa old memories..hurhur..i was thinking thru the sequence of events in the prank of ms hia..then i thot why am i not involved?..then i realised tt qian2 tian1(30/04) is my arm dislocation anniversary!!..hurhur..but anw..hope u all have fun in camp(!)..or at the workplace..or mebbe grow up liao..dun play pranks/no time to play pranks liao..hurhur..no matter wad..stay healthy(body, mind n soul)..n cheerful~!..hope tt the stupid things we used to do in april fools' day will always bring a smile to ur face every april fools' day=)
