inspiration

know tt clinics have been tougher for some than others..most definitely I am having fun...:) hehe..trying to take some heat off patrick and alfred
think some of you all feel like you all are having difficulty with clinics...almost like you are missing a leg when facing indominable obstacles...(esp with patho missing, fearsome tutors..)
but when you think of that...maybe you can think of this too

It has begun
Dear friends, its been a while since I last posted and I thought it'll be nice to share with everyone here or overseas how some of us have been doing recently.
It is now the time of our medical education where we are split into small groups of 1-3 pple, called clinical groups (CGs), and are sent to roam around the hospital wards learning and trying to take proper medical histories as we talk to patients. Sometimes, with luck, we are allowed to do physical examinations too.
From here though, I can only speak on behalf of my CG at Alexandra Hospital, which consists of myself, alfred and patrick. Let me introduce my groupmates to you.
As compared to my short, pigmented and scrawny self... Alfred is a shy, tall, dark and, may I say, rather handsome guy with a cool PDA. He likes to assemble and repair computers too. Oh yes, in case some of you know him, his name is Alfred Ng Weixiang. As for Patrick, he is tall, fair and handsome, kind of like those korean heart-throbs. He speaks french, is terribly hardworking and practices aikido. I like his name for the its nice loud ring to it: Patrick Pang Ningqi.
Yes, one of the many non-academic things we learnt this week was that english names come in handy for certain people to remember you better. So if you're one of them, remember... alfred and patrick =) heehee
But besides that, this week will be remembered for many other things.
Our monday lectures have made topics such as expressing empathy and note-taking into educational topics, exhorting advice like "dont say 'dont worry', it never works! Accept and acknowledge their worry!". Tuesday was spent on fitting the right mask and drawing blood from mannequin arms... not to mention hours of board-gaming with our wunnerful extended CG.
From wednesday onwards, we spent our time standing for hours on end in the hospitals having monster rapidfire tutorials, chasing the people in the higher echelons as they zip around from ward to ward, learning to scrub oursevles ultra clean in the operating theatres with friendly auntie nurses as well as sitting down quietly beside patients to talk to them.
It is perhaps the last which lingers on our mind as we fall asleep each night. Patients we might not see next week, patients who perceive the world very differently and patients who echo bits of our past, present and future. And though our extremely generous tutors have taught us many valuable things this week, I think I will remember these first patients for teaching me something simple but which I felt was lacking: Strive to be one who makes them happy when they see youLabels: first week clinics

the benefits of giving tuition
hehe..
recently i found on my permutations and combinations and probability and stats tutorial list a poem that i jotted down when we were all younger and a little more idealistic...i really really loved this poem when i first read it...think it was someone's birthday card...so i jotted it down...
I wish for you (my dear 78 friends, honorary 78 members and meddies who read this blog)...
Happiness. Deep down within. Serenity. With each sunrise. Success. In each facet of your life. Close and caring friends. Love. That never ends. Special memories. Of all the yesterdays. A bright today. With much to be thankful for. A path. That leads to beautiful tomorrows. Dreams. That do their best to come true. And appreciation. Of all the wonderful things about you.
- Collin McCarty
So it went to google this guy...didn't know much about him...but apparently he wrote a lot of these stuff....those corny stuff u get from all those nice pink gift shops...so here's another one to all those who need it....
Begin Again by Collin McCarty One of the best things we can do in our lives is this: begin again. Begin to see yourself as you were when you were the happiest and strongest you've ever been.
Begin to remember what worked for you (and what worked against you),and try to capture the magic again.
Begin to remember how natural it was when you were a child - to live a lifetime each day.
Begin to forget the baggage you have carried with you for years:the problems that don't matter anymore, the tears that cried themselves away, and the worries that are going to wash away on the shore of tomorrow's new beginning.
Tomorrow tells us it will be here every new day of our lives; and if we will be wise, we will turn away from the problems of the past and give the future - and ourselves - a chance to become the best of friends.
Sometimes all it takes is a wish in the heart to let yourself...Begin Again.
