Anyone keen to watch...

..? I've already got the subtitles for this version...
Short synopsis: During the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, eleven Israeli athletes are taken hostage and murdered by a Palestinian terrorist group known as Black September. In retaliation, the Israeli government recruits a group of Mossad agents to track down and execute those responsible for the attack.
I know it's in Eng, but my motto is: Understanding more means enjoying more!

regarding biomed training and wadever
Ok, sorry my post is not about the photos...sorry its off-topic...but this blog gets considerably more viewership...
On to why I've been inspired to post this. It's because recently I've been receiving calls/smses on friday nights asking about the next day's training.
So wad I wan to say: If you need to ask me anything abt the training, it's ok. If you have absolutely no idea wad's going on, I'm happy to enlighten you. If you need to ask me to zap anything, it's ok. If you need me to make any arrangement, I'm at ur service. If you can't turn up, its alright, I can get another person to take over. If you think that teaching juniors medical knowledge is a complete waste of your time, and the whole thing is a big colossal joke, so be it, let me know. I can always get someone else.
Juz dun friggin msg me the night b4 the training. Becos I cannot, I repeat, cannot do anything about it.
And to the juniors, fellow trainers, organisers, and wadever. If you wan to do something, do it well, do it good. If u decide to do something, put your heart to it. Half-hearted attempts just waste everybody's time.
Thank you and have a good night.

Remembering every day of your life
Can you remember what you did exactly on 10 January 2006? You might. Or maybe 30 March 1995? Highly unlikely. What about 28th December 1984? Oops, we were'nt born yet =P But yes, AJ can remember what she did on every single day in her life since 1980. I quote:
"You ask her any date, and she says that she can go back and feel the day, almost relive it. A gift and curse: she vividly remembers each day of her childhood—her earliest memory is as an 18 month-old—but she remembers every bad day just as vividly. She doesn’t appear to have any other type of profound memory ability; she can’t memorize long lists of numbers, and she can’t tell you days of the week in her past or future. She has only an average IQ when tested (although her IQ memory component scores much higher). It’s almost too amazing to believe; you’ll have to read the report yourself to see all their verification steps."
Read more here: http://www.grahamazon.com/2006/04/ajs-autobiographical-memory/
I changed the date because the later 2 posts are more important =)

Accolades
Was thinking if I should post an entry like this since I should have better things to do and worse, I will be shameless in my exaltation of my 3 compatriots. But hey, 我不入地狱谁入地狱?况且,有这三位神的保佑我什么都不怕不怕啦。I shall warn beforehand and apologise if this stuff offends or upsets anyone, especially other medical students and fellow classmates whose stories I didn’t tell. The fault is entirely mine. However, if you still choose to carry on reading from here, I absolve myself of any guilt.
In no order of merit, I present to you the 3 most eligible medical bachelors who have really outdone themselves this year:
Pang Ning Qi
It has been said that people with 13 strokes in their Chinese name will go on to do great things. 宁奇 is certainly fulfilling that prophecy.
An all-rounder since young, Mr.Pang always had a knack for excelling in everything, whether they interested him or not. So it is no surprise that the medical faculty academics have recognized his precocious talent. This tall, handsome and fairly dark gentleman with wondrously chiseled sharp features takes anyone’s breath away. Forget about ecstasy and heroin, Mr.Pang is all you’ll ever need for your lifetime. His melodious tunes on the 二胡 coupled with his dashingly pensive gazes bring joy much more effectively to heart patients than any amount of digitalis. This is also a man of integrity, having ensured that the council funds in the year 03-04 weren’t embezzled. Tell me how many people with his IQ wouldn’t have laundered all that money without batting an eyelid? Did I mention he’s a tough guy into Aikido too? Or that his French sounds irresistibly sexy? Or that he can even speak Bahasa Indonesia!! Any girl would be a fool to not get to know him now that I’ve told you all this.
Ronnie Tan Voon Shiong
Our world only needs to be shaped by a few great minds. 20 years ago, Singapore was gifted with one of them. His name was Ronnie.
There are few things in this world that this wise sage can’t figure out. Having been revered by his peers since young, Ronnie could figure anything out and deliver the answer to the masses succinctly in a few words. This god-like reverence shows no signs of abating and why should it? Take it from us, Ronnie never lies and is always right!
Another to be recognized by the medical faculty, Ronnie has always been a luminary. First in physics, then in chemistry and now in medicine. Does anyone dare doubt what he sets his mind on doing? Having been the Chinese society 道具 head and in Chinese orchestra, Voon Shiong has now taken to learning German. We can just picture him as the next Goethe or Nietzsche minus the complicated personal life. Because Ronnie is the ultimate SNAG. Yes, he is down-to-earth (though he is a 神), considerate, caring, thoughtful, unpretentious and everything you want your boyfriend or husband to be. For any girl who always wished she got her fair share but not excessive amount of TLC, Ronnie is a person you must consider.
Ng Wei Xiang Alfred
There is a story as to how Wei Xiang got his English name. It is said that since he was a young boy, Wei Xiang has wanted to win the Nobel Prize for Singapore. Thus, he named himself after Alfred Nobel. This year, he certainly has taken a step in the right direction by being the last, but certainly not the least, of the trio to be recognized.
Wei Xiang’s Ahn Jung Kwan-like smoldering good looks may be the first thing to strike you. But it doesn’t stop there folks, this guy brings across his opinions and expresses his thoughts in such a convincing way that George Clooney’s character in ER looks like a stuttering bumbleronimajig. Wei Xiang has also been a techie, driving projects and designs that continue to inspire current generations (think Tempest, Immunomatrix, Ygnite). Yet another luminary from the Chinese Orchestra, Wei Xiang is currently presiding over the HC Biomedical training as their outstanding Chief Trainer. Watch out for Mr.Ng next time you walk by a clinic, you’ll want to see him even if you’re not sick!
Yup, so jiayou to the 3 of you! And jiayou to any other medical student who might still be mugging, anyone studying for exams or anyone in need of inspiration in his or her life! Do take this entry in the right way, given that it was written by some childish time-waster in awe of his peers. Certainly, don't waste time re-reading this just to get worked up over it =P

What do you eat for breakfast?
So this morning, I was happily nibbling away at my breakfast having sinfully slept for 9+hrs last night. But it wasnt long before I suddenly felt that feeling of faineance creeping up on me, telling me that I needed to fall straight back into bed and sleep. If this were any other day I've had so far after the exams, I'd have gladly done that. But no, feeling that 9hours of solid sleep writes off any excuse I have to somehow succumb to the neurotransmitters dancing around in my weak brain, I valiantly resist and do something marginally better than sleeping: blogging! yay, I feel so proud of myself...
But honestly, I have to contend with this issue. Its terrible to sleep more believing you'll feel more energetic the next day and then eat a breakfast that only makes you feel drowsy immediately after. Having sadly given up believing that I can successfully combat post-meal sleepiness by pure mental strength, I believe the only solution is to trick myself into believing that the stuff I eat will not make me lapse into that state of idleness. So I embarked on a quest into find food that claims to not make one feel sleepy!
Why does one feel sleepy after a meal anyway? Well, popular belief preaches that when you eat, more blood flows to your gastrointestinal system and less to your brain and so you feel sleepy. There might be some truth in that but a significant reason also lies in the fact that during a meal, the glucose you ingest results in (yada yada...GLP-1 .. PKA.. ATP.. Ca2+ yada yada) that eventually raises the secretion of insulin.
This funny keymaster called insulin regulates the uptake of most amino acids in the bloodstream but for some reason, leaves guys called tryptophan out. Tryptophans, feeling dejected over being snubbed despite being part of the "essential amino acids" club, find solace when more and more Tryptophans accumulate in the bloodstream. Then they reach nirvana in a place called the "Brain" and all of them try to rush to meet pretty angels called "Tryptophan hydroxylase" in pretty houses called "neurons" floating on the clouds of cerebrospinal fluid.
Now, whatever tryptophan and the pretty angels do inside the house, soon after, small kids called "serotonin" walk out and grow up to have a complicated love life. Which brings them to a place called the pineal gland where they are forced to change their names to "melatonin" of the "hormone" lineage because serotonins were being persecuted there.
Melatonin, tired of his migratory lifestyle decides to stage a rebellion to take over the authorities governing the brain. When enough melatonins join forces, they eventually do so and establish themselves as the governing party which they name "Sleep".
I realise I'm running out of time so I shall try to reach the end of my quest. Given that now I know the story of insulin yada yada. I have decided that I shall try hard to eat stuff for breakfast that doesnt flood my GIT with glucose too quickly, called high Glycemic index (GI)foods. Cornflakes, white bread, rice, muffins, margarine, jam, honey... Oh gosh, I might as well not eat breakfast =)
Here's what a brain-friendly breakfast is supposed to look like:
Whole wheat bread: Not a complex carbohydrate, but its sugars are released into the blood stream at a slower rate than white bread's sugars. Milk: also a slow glucose releasing carbohydrate Eggs and Yogurt: full of complex proteins, raising the level of the amino acid tyrosine in the blood and brain. If more tyrosine is present, the body's neurons will produce more norepinephrine and dopamine. Dopamine btw, is associated with activity and fine muscle coordination and aids in autonomic nervous system and immune system functions. Dopamine levels can be depleted by lack of sleep and high stress.
For other meals... Low GI foods: apples, oranges, pears, avocados, leafy green vegetables, tomatoes, broccoli, legumes, beans. Vegetables like spinach and broccoli also contain high levels of water-soluble antioxidant glutathione and fat-soluble antioxidant lipoic acid Blueberries: Researchers at Tufts University analyzed more than 40 fruits and vegetables and found that fresh raw blueberries contain the highest level of antioxidants compared to the other fruits and vegetables. Animals fed an antioxidant rich blueberry diet outperformed the control group of animals on memory tests and showed fewer age related motor changes.Hmm!
Well, hopefully that tricks my brain into believing that it should not feel sleepy after a meal even if melatonins are flooding my system. (names of hormones should have plural forms?) But then again staring at the computer too long has reduced my blink rate and strained my eyes. I do feel my eyes want a rest.... my weak mind just cant withstand the power of the force =(

Taken from some traveller's website: http://www.io.com/~pml/archive/ice34.html
sounds like something that only comes from cartoons or comedies..
"My very first impression of India as I stepped off the plane was that the gate was still under construction. After a moment I realized this was not the case. It was very much completed, only it looked like it was a construction site. After several days in India I realized that it is very exceptional to see a building that looks finished -- as I choose to use the term.
I spent the first 13 days of my trek travelling through Rajastan. I found a place called the Indian Tourist Bureau, which although it sounds like a government office it has nothing to do with it. In reality it's a very large long distance taxi company that organizes trips for travelers. They did a great job for me by organizing hotels and events along the way. For the duration of the trip I had full use of a car and my very own personal driver who kept calling me Sir no matter how many times I told him not to.
"My name is Peter. Call me Peter." "Yes sir." . . . .
"Are you going to call me Peter instead of Sir?" "Yes sir." . . . . . .
"Do you understand what I'm saying?" "Yes, you want me to not call you sir." "Will you do that?" "Yes sir."
hahaha:)

ningky rebutted
according to ningky:
"The more I study, the more I know. The more I know, the more I forget. The more I forget, the less I know. So why study?" he is assuming that knowledge follows a negative feedback loop - i.e. the brain has a max capacity for knowledge. but that isn't the case, is it?
don't believe?
i prove to you.
take out your j2 notes.
Na+ ions flow into a section of the unmyelinated nerve cell from a proximal section. Na+ influx causes more Na+ gates to open. nerve gets more and more depolarised. (rinse, wash and repeat) so it means:
if you study (enough), you see the link btw all the things in ur notes. when u see the link, it causes u to be more enthu abt studying. when u study more, u learn more until ur brain bursts. doesn't this make biological sense too? =D
am darn bouliao now waiting for hair to dry, that's why thought abt blogging on class blog =P

No logic..
When i study..i realise that..
the more i noe..the more i dunno
mebbe as wad ningqi said..
the more i study..the more i forget.. (GANJIONG LIAO)
the more i forget..the more i dunno.. (HOW TO PASS?)
hence if i dunno so much..then i study more (PANICK TMDD)
studying more only makes me dunno more.. (SUP PAPER LIAO)
but we must not forget tt there is hope in this world (HERO!)
that will break us away from this stupid vicious cycle..
as how all positive feedback cycle in the world works..
to break the cycle u nid an external input..
so someone from the outside hafta giv u a pat on the shoulder..
and lead u to the
ALDOSTERONE ESCAPE!!!..
okok
ESCAPE FROM ATLANTIS..
i suppose everyone wans to b a doctor in atlantis..
tts why everyone cant stand it liao and wan to escape from it..
cant stand the angsty-ness in med libs..
tho im one of them who contribute to the aura that lingers in the libs which nv die..
i suppose everyone has someway to escape..
tts why morale boosters start popping out everywhere..
haf a good laugh..
look at things tt please u..
think abt some stuffs tt lets u escape from aldosterone from a while..
then come baq and realise tt..
despite everything tt aldosterone does to increase secretion of K+..
the general K+ renal excretion rate remains somewhat the same..
sometimes
no matter wad u do..how much u do..wadeva u do..
it doesnt matter..
cos when time pass..
everything will pass..
n u will forget everything!!
argh..
remember to watch campus superstar on sundae..

Logic
The more I study, the more I know. The more I know, the more I forget. The more I forget, the less I know. So why study?
Don't believe?
I prove to you.
The more the blood volume, the more the glomerular filtrate. The more the glomerular filtrate, the more the urine. (think pressure diuresis) The more the urine, the lesser the blood volume. So there.
