九寨沟
I overheard 2 chinese students talking about this place when I was having dinner in the canteen and went to read up on it out of curiosity. When I saw the picture I like... wahhh, stunningly 山明水秀. The surroundings and the lake itself is very colourful: the pictures depict mainly parts called 五花海 and 珍珠滩瀑布.
If I didnt understand wrongly, I think a lot of the formations you see under the lake are formed from calcium carbonate which was around during the Ice Age and erm, (precipitated?) out as the climate is warmer now. Yah, then apparently this lake doesnt freeze over during the winter either cos the hot springs below keep the lake at at least 6 degrees celsius. Can read more here: www.jiu-zhai-gou.com
Good to know the world still has such beautiful places that gives us the chance to see and appreciate them.
It also reminds me of an article I saw today when some of us went to visit the school for the visually handicapped today at toa payoh about a blind photographer. A related article is here: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/02/27/PKG5QBEBB01.DTL Quite nice, about how he became a taekwando teacher as well.
Maybe I'll just end of with a short story too =) When we were at the school earlier today, one of the low-vision boys there, probably upper primary, tagged behind our group for a while. When he started following us way beyond the classrooms, I decided to ask him if he was lost.
He replied, "Oh no, I just like to follow quietly behind when we have visitors. Like alien invaders. Wooo..."
Not really sure what to make of that, I asked, "Do you know where we're going now?" (Braille production unit)
His raised his index finger in glee and said, "We going to invade base. You're the good alien, I'm human and we're going to fight the bad aliens in the world."
And so he skipped off, avoiding longkangs and bumps with artful dodges I wished I could do on a soccer pitch. Keeping up with him, I clumsily knocked my foot on an elevated step into the building which he had skillfully avoided with a jump from the yellow round warning tiles you see in MRT stations.
"Careful," he said.
That really made me feel like an alien on his Earth.
It is written by a law professor of Yale in 1939. It is splendid and entertaining. I quote the ending paragraph of chapter 2.
" The law, alone of all the sciences, just sits – aloof and practically motionless. Constitutions do not affect it and statutes do not change it. Lawyers talk wise about it and judges purport to “apply” it when they lay down rules for men to follow, but actually The Law – with a capital L – has no real relation to the affairs of men. It is permanent and changeless – which means that it is not of this earth. It is a mass of vague abstract principles – which means that it is a lot of words. It is a brooding omnipresence in the sky – which means that it is a big balloon, which has thus far escaped the lethal pin. "

more reasons to be happy
ningqi's post somehow mirrors some thoughts of mine this afternoon as i took a tram home from sch.. i was sitting in the tram when a blind lady came on and took a seat next to me. as the tram moved along, i noticed what beautiful scenery there was outside along the route the tram takes to bring me home.. and how lucky i was to be able to enjoy this everyday. something like scenery can brighten up a bad day and make a gd one seem even better. then i realised that the blind lady couldn't enjoy that feeling cos she couldn't see it. so yes, another good reason to be happy is that we are born with all five senses and hardly any life-threatening conditions. yeah, many are not so lucky.

be happy
Today while i was on the way home, i saw a relatively old lady, probably in her fifties, reaching into the dustbin, taking out a can of finished soft drink bottle, placing it on the ground, then stepping on it. The flattened can was then put in a bag she was holding, filled with other similar cans. I realised how really lucky we all are. How many times have we carelessly tossed a finished can of soft drink into the bin, talking and laughing with our friends at the same time. The very thing that we treat as trash however, becomes a means of livelihood of someone else. While we may have been complaining of how much work we have to do when we get home, how boring army is when we were throwing that very can, we seem to think, always, that we get the lousy deals in life. But the can knows better. It sees the other side of life in singapore invisible to us.
On the front page of zao bao today is the news of the unfortunate incident of the man who jumped into the mrt track just as the train approached the station. The pple overseas might not have heard of this news. He was instantly cut into three parts. The main reason for jumping, it seems, is the financial situation of his family. He has been unemployed for 3 months, and the family lives on the $500 plus from the wife's income, supporting two children. When asked to identify the corpse, the wife said she had no money to take train to go to the place to identify the corpse.
So after today, i shall try not to complain about life anymore, cos in fact, i'm pretty much getting the good deals. We all are.
PS. According to the 'Ningqi's Index of Happiness', weix you are rapidly rising! From what i see today, abt 60. yea keep gg....

Just to pass a message..
Xiaoxuan says that the girl in the two pics i posted recently looks very nice.. ofcus man, otherwise why would i post their fotos, by the way they are two different girls..
I just happened to think that most probably people forgot about our old clsbench..and the new s78 pple might not even noe abt the existence of it..that we once had 8-9 tables to our own..and our resistance to move..just like some bacteria..toking about colonization of pneumocystis carnii infection in HIV patients..and dengue virus whacking the liver..ok so here's some pictures..dun b shocked if u feel dejavu when looking at them..cos most probably u have seen them in ur dreams..
The happier days of suhan, joy of throwing drumsticks..
Happier days of me and weilei looking out into the greeneries..I think this foto was taken on one of the bdae celebrations..cos i can see the bluish metal pot which qy brought..
Happier days of ms wang sitting at the cls bench with us..recently saw her at MAF..she is as chio as ever..haha..
Happier days of xizhen bullying the other clsmates as usual..
Happier days of the 3 kids whose bdae fall on the 3rd mth..
Last but not least, happier days of mugging..
Looking forward fondly to the days when I am not doing what I am doing now.
Cheers! Yang =)

to add on to the randomness...
Hey, not only you and quan yao went! This is proof taken with mary poppins =)
Wah, 2 more years can attend wedding liao. I wonder what you budgeted the batteries for though hmmmmmmm
Ah okay, more randomness... my dad went for a primary school reunion recently. The primary school doesnt exist anymore, they are all like 50+ and they even invited some of their primary school teachers some of whom are in their 80s. I was amazed to say the least.
So just to show you I'm not making this up, this is the group picture they took =) Perhaps something like this will happen someday. I guess some of you know which one my dad is, for those who dont, you can try venturing a guess haha. I have been and still am a spitting image of my dad when he was a kid and a teenager so going by that, I'm probably showing you now how to recognise me in a few decades heh.

Crossing the midline at brain stem or spinal cord..
Hey good day gentleman (and ladies).
Guess some of you will be quiet puzzled by what the hell is the title about. The rest of you just read and don't care. Right, thats the way man, don't think too much, its bad for your brain.
Basically I wanted to mean is simply "thoughts that cross my mind". But to complicate matter more, some things are brought to the conscious level at the cerebral cortex, which you can feel for it. Some stuffs, are just left in the reflex action.
"So what had been going through your mind recently?" alot people had been asking me. Well, all I can say is that alot of things had been going through my mind.
DND was fun..too bad only me and qy went..
The most recent movie and the girl in it::)
The old and the new guys..
HIV and acyclovir. Wahh. Going mad liao.
Last but not least, the amount of money that I need to save so that I might be able to get married in 2008. Though I don't have any idea who will I marry then, but my weird friends have this weird idea to let me do so. According to a highly optimistic estimate, you need at least $60,000 at one go. Not including the batteries that are sold separately. Please do take note I spent all my cents during the Europe trip earlier this year.
Miss fondly the days when I am not doing what I am doing now.
Cheers! Yang =)

MAF at Hwa Chong
Dear all… Here’s a couple of pictures of MAF at 华初。Think it was good to gather with endearing friends at our familiar school, which has been an intimate part of our lives.
The night at Hwa Chong.
The central plaza, filled with the voices of all of us, singing the familiar college songs.

Our junior glorijoy & wenyang
Our class.. Nice to be in each other's presence. All of us concurred fully that Wei Xiang was impeccably dressed and well-groomed on that day :)

fight against child porn
The innocent victims of Internet child abuse cannot speak for themselves.
We're aiming to light at least One Million Candles by December 31, 2006.
This petition will be used to encourage governments, politicians, financial institutions, payment organisations, Internet service providers, technology companies and law enforcement agencies to eradicate the commercial viability of online child abuse.
They have the power to work together. You have the power to get them to take action.
Please light your candle at lightamillioncandles.com <http://www.lightamillioncandles.com> or send an email of support to light@lightamillioncandles.com.
Together, we can destroy the commercial viability of Internet child abuse sites that are destroying the lives of innocent children.
