Backpacking 06: Dubai, Frankfurt, Berlin
Hi all, decided to share stories from our backpacking trip =) Most of the nicer photos are with xiang-ge and ronnie so you can mix and match later heh. But before I start, here’s a short but helpful glossary of some lingo used:
UP: adj, used to denote something/someone/anything good or that was well done. Often accompanied by the hand sign of adducted fingers pointing skywards. 1 x gd ___: noun, used to describe a very satisfying meal or event in general good man: noun, used on a guy who has just done something praiseworthy the MAN: noun, used solely as an alternative for xiang-ge 老妈交待:noun, the taking of a photograph as proof that you’ve actually been to the places you told your mother you were going to. 老大:noun, person with the map or the most food. 饿鬼:noun, refers to tall skinny people with high metabolic rates like nq & xiang-ge circle of trust: noun, sharing of childhood and teenage stories and secrets Brokeback: verb, to find yourself hanging out with another guy Pssssss: verb, mimicking of a smoke grenade, to surreptitiously get lost de1 de1: ?, variation of ta-da *yj laughing*: ?, ludicrously infectious laughter
23rd may (Tues) Dubai We left Changi at 0325 in a rather dazed state after lagging at the airport for about 2hrs. The Emirates flight was very comfortable though! Yes, anyone traveling in summer should definitely wait for NATAS offers. We managed to revise some of our physical geography too at the window seat as the plane flew pass numerous ridges and other land formations basking in the early rays of the sunrise =)
Didn’t have much time to walk around the airport though as our transit was rather short and most of the time was spent waiting and taking the bus from the plane to the terminal. (The s’pore silat team was on the plane too heh) Managed to get this shot on the bus though.
Frankfurt
Landed in Frankfurt and took a train immediately to their train station to catch the train to Berlin. Again, we weren’t able to spend too much time there. But just enough to hunt out some currywurst and pretzels =p Also saw this sign outside their BK…
After that, we skipped happily onto the train and sat down in a luxurious train cabin with enough leg room to do our 满江红 routine. There we were rejoicing, thinking trains in Europe were super UP until the conductor walked in and chased us out of the 1st class carriage =S
Berlin Reached our destination that evening. Berlin! A place where so much has happened in the last century… Also where were we would meet xizhen and her friend pei wen (who was very nice to follow us around while we were there). Our very own T-rex has put on a bit of weight! Possibly because she eats more now too –shudder-
We stayed at a 1 x gd apartment in Berlin. It was the cheapest accommodation of our whole trip and the best! Wouldn’t mind having a class chalet in an apartment like that sia.
